A three-villa private resort
By Chris McBeath
Villa Aquamara, British Virgin Islands, is one of those romantic, Caribbean gems that glossy travel magazines like to eulogize. And with good reason. Because it’s extremely rare to find this style of luxury suites clustered in a completely private beach compound, the ‘resort’ is of those ultra-special destinations and is a sizzling venue for weddings.
Private and Intimate Location
The complex comprises three private villas set along a half-mile of pristine beach frontage at Mahoe Bay on the scenic Western coast of Virgin Gorda. Each villa offers 8,000 square-feet of living space and five spacious suites – three of them Master Suites – all with marble baths en suite. That means that each Villa can comfortably sleep up to 12 guests.
In addition to lavishly appointed furnishings and gourmet kitchens, each villa also boasts multiple terraces that lead to a private infinity pool so whether even if you’re only interested in using in one villa, over taking over the entire resort, pampered privacy is the name of the game. We’re talking five-star hotel services, upscale amenities such as Frette linens and Bulgari toiletries, and a staff to look after your every need including a private chef and/or personal concierge service if desired.
Villa Aquamare has become the locale for destination weddings, and is widely lauded by the likes of Town & Country, and Conde Nast Traveller, among others. Weddings here are planned around the concept of taking over all three villas, thereby providing multiple venues and giving bridal parties maximum flexibility in planning and organizing their wedding celebrations. And since weddings are a specialty, a wedding planner is included to organize all the details from florals, to lovely invitation papery, cakes, food and drinks, activities and special gifts for attending guests. The bridge and groom need only show up, exchange vows and snuggle up before a glorious sunset.
Many brides elect to have a simple, barefoot ceremony on the beach for a handful of guests at sunset, overlooking the Caribbean. Others may plan a more elaborate affair, such as an elegant seated dinner for up to 60 people.
The Price of Paradise
Five-night takeover rates for Villa Aquamare's three villas range from $42,000 to $57,900, depending on the season. Taxes and service charges are extra, as are all wedding costs.
Optional activities, from boat charters and private chefs to spa services on the resort’s 62-foot yacht, are easily arranged.
