With so many spa clients demanding more effective, results-oriented, anti-aging treatments that have lasting efficacy, the provision of medical esthetics in a spa environment is on the fast-track. Today’s spa customers want all of this, but without missing a day of work, much less having to hide away for the healing time required of any eye or face lift.
Surgery is still the only remedy for loose or sagging skin, however, there are less scary choices to help rejuvenate tired, sallow-looking dermis.
The first option that promises pretty instant results is Microdermabrasion which in essence, is like an extreme exfoliation.
What it is:
Using a spray of micronized aluminum dioxide or pulverized particles of table, salt, microdermabrasion is a controlled mechanical exfoliation of the surface layer of dead skins cells.
This popular procedure is used for dryness, fine lines, pigmentation problems such as brown spots, and shallow scars. It also minimizes enlarged pores and acne breakouts.
What to expect:
Microdermabrasian blasts away the dead cells that stack up on the epidermis as a result of age, pollution and exposure to sun, all of which leaves skin looking dry and dull. It feels like a fine sandpaper blasting against your skin and may be quite tingly.
One session works wonders in that your skin will be noticeably softer and smoother and will have a fresh, healthy glow for a number of weeks.
A series of sessions, usually between five and ten treatments done weekly, will likely produce outstanding results if you have problems with pigmentation, minor scarring and fine lines. Microdermabrasion also helps to stimulate the production of collagen, the fibers that provide support to the skin.
There will probably be a slight redness for several hours. On rare occasions, scarring can occur if the skin is treated in an overly aggressive manner. Infrequently, scarring occurs when skin in treated in an overly aggressive manner, so take ‘time-out’ between series.
Prices range from $150 to $200 per treatment; many spas will offer a series of treatments at a reduced cost.
